Disclosure: I was sent a sampler of Orchard Choice fig spread, in exchange for a post that included their products, by Valley Fig Growers (made possible by KitchenPLAY). Valley Fig Growers is also providing the giveaway item. All opinions are 100% my own.
With Christmas in a couple of short days, I’m sure that quite a few of y’all (myself included) are hosting or going to holiday meals with loved ones. One of the few things I often forget to do is to thank the host/hostess with a small gift. Quite a few people like to bring a bottle of wine or a bouquet of flowers, but I much prefer bringing something food related. It can be anything from a homemade food gift to a fun food product that I think is worth sharing with others.
Here’s some of my favorites:
Specialty Preserves, like Orchard Choice California Fig Spreads
These are such lovely preserves by Valley Fig Growers. They come in unique flavors like port wine fig spread, California orange fig spread, organic mission fig spread & balsamic pepper fig spread. After trying these, I imagine these would go perfectly over brie en croute or on a platter with cheese and crackers. (Check the bottom of this post for a giveaway!)
Homemade Peppermint Sugar Scrub
This is a quick and easy gift to throw together, and it looks super impressive layered in a fun jar like this or a mason jar. It’s also perfectly festive for the holiday season!
Sucre Macarons
Sucre is local to New Orleans, and while they offer a whole slew of dessert options, I find that their macarons are my favorite (especially their bananas foster macaron). If you actually go to the bakery, you can hand pick your flavors to go in a gift box. However, they also ship anywhere in the US! Their packaging is beautiful, too.
Red Stick Company Olive Oil or Balsamic Vinegar
I love this local business. They offer so many gift-worthy things, from spice blends to loose teas, to my favorite, flavor infused olive oils and balsamic vinegars. If you aren’t local to Baton Rouge, they do ship their products as well!
Homemade candy, like fudge or caramels
Candy-making can be a little intimidating, but with a good candy thermometer and patience, you can totally make your own! My favorites are my mom’s chocolate peanut butter fudge and apple cider caramels. 🙂
As you can see, these gifts aren’t very expensive, but a small gesture like this is a nice “thank you” for someone who is hosting a party. (Or heck, if you don’t have time to purchase a gift, even offering to help with the dishes after the meal would probably make any host’s day…just saying!)
The generous folks at Valley Fig Growers are offering a Fig Spread Variety 4-Pack for one lucky reader of The Nifty Foodie.
