Hi, I’m Amy, and this is my blog.
I enjoy the finer things in life…a freshly honed Henckel’s knife, the aroma of a meal that hasn’t burned yet and the purr of a dishwasher cleaning a full load of dishes.
Up until graduating college in 2007, my life in the kitchen was completely different. Friends would congregate to the kitchen to make hundreds of jello shots for a party, we were known to make a mean pasta dish (with the help of Bertolli and the frozen food section) and well, of course the kitchen was well stocked with ramen and Chef Boyardee. My $5 Sunbeam hand mixer in the college days gave me years of fine cakes and pastries too!

After graduating and then getting engaged in 2008, I knew that I needed to learn how to cook, because well, I was moving over an hour away from Mom. The words saute/braising/chiffonade baffled my mind. Don’t even get me started on how many deep cuts I caused when my fingers stood between my knife and the onion and the burns that took place when I thought my hands could quickly grab that pan of cookies sans oven mitts. It was pretty bad, but I decided to indulge in some Food Network and Food Blog therapy.
In January, I decided to start a little ol’ food blog of my own, called Skinny Food by Amy. You see, I was losing weight for the wedding, and wanted to feature lighter foods. I ended up losing over 20 lbs. and felt like I was in the best shape of my life.

After blogging for about 2 years, I started to realize that my blog’s title really no longer applies, because baking and decorating became huge hobbies of mine. So, now, I’m just going to consider myself The Nifty Foodie. I hope you don’t mind the name change.
I’m still going to feature the skinny recipes, because there’s nothing wrong with eating healthy and heck, I’m still battling my weight.
Oh, and if you happen to be interested in what happens to me when the kitchen is closed, feel free to mosey on over to the life blog, which has also been renamed (formerly The Nifty Newlywed) since I’m pretty much no longer a newlywed.

Hi Amy,
I joined WW last month with the same quest as you: to lose 100 lbs (or as my WW leader refers it , 20 sacks of flour!). I was so pleased to happen upon your site! I LOVE to cook and I am always searching for food adventures WW friendly style.
Best wishes to you on your journey!

I don’t regularly use SparkPeople to track. I just go there for calculating recipes. I’m sorry!
