Remember when I mentioned that I used to cross-stitch?
I busted out the collection for ornament making. I was a bit of a fanatic, no?

I hope everyone had a wonderful day with family and friends. 🙂
I just wanted to leave you with this awesome Thanksgiving song, since we don’t have many of those on the radio. 🙂
By the way, don’t forget to check this blog tomorrow for a HUGE Black Friday sale in the Etsy shop. 🙂

You might remember my vent a little while ago about how the timing on my sewing machine made a turn for the worse. $99 repair..more than half of the cost of another machine. I thought my machine would be all better, but I was terribly wrong.
Last week, I started noticing that it would hesitate when I tried to turn the hand wheel. Then, when making holiday Nifty Woofs, the machine stopped reverse stitching altogether. I need reverse stitching for the bandannas to keep the seams secure, but now I have to do that manually. Pain in the you know what.
I can’t believe my machine broke so quickly again. Let’s just say that this crafter will never buy a Singer again. EVER. This is my machine.

I’ve been sewing on it for about a year now, and it’s already having major problems. Boo on you Singer. Never again.
Maybe in a couple of months, I’ll splurge on a new machine. I’m totally NOT paying another $99 to get this machine fixed, only to have it break on me again. No way.

Can you believe that tomorrow is Thanksgiving? It seems like just yesterday I found myself still writing 2009 on papers, when it should have been 2010. Now, 2011 is pretty much around the corner. Crazy, eh?
I hosted Thanksgiving for the first time last year. It was so wonderful to have our families in our home together, and at the time, I actually had the Christmas tree up for the family to see. My Dad gave me a hard time about it, but hey, what’s a little early Christmas cheer gonna hurt?
This year, we’re going to my in-laws’ for Thanksgiving, so the hubs and I are only making a couple of dishes to bring over, rather than coordinating a good portion of the meal. While I love hosting a good party, I’m a little relieved to just chill for the holiday. 🙂
I’ve noticed that I’ve gained some new readers since last Thanksgiving, so I thought it would be fun to share some of my Thanksgiving favorites with y’all. Some of the pictures will probably not look so great in these posts, but hey, I promise these dishes are super tasty!
Some of my favorites:
I hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving! What are your favorite dishes for Thanksgiving?

As you may know, I hate HATE clothes shopping. It’s absolutely depressing for someone my size, not to mention, pricey.
There aren’t many choices out there for plus sized women. I can go into JCPenney and the choices for plus sizes are about 1/4 of the choices for women in misses. Is this a silent way to tell me that I need to lose weight to get more clothing choices? Most of the time, as well, the plus sized selection is very mature. Not a fan. I’m 26.
There are other reasons I rarely shop.
Well, it got to the point that most of the tops I wear at the workplace are from college. Some of the tops have recently started to get holes, and I have to just stop wearing them. So, I had no choice. Even the hubs pushed me to do this, because I needed new tops.
I’m REALLY hoping these tops won’t fit me next Fall/Winter season. I also REALLY hope they look decent on me, since I bought them online (Lane Bryant was having an early Cyber Monday sale yesterday).
I’ll look ok, right? Can you believe that these sweaters/tops were regularly $40-$50? THIS is why I hate shopping plus size folks. Ridiculous. Thank God for a 50% off code yesterday. I just hope they are cute. :
Hilariously, when I told my mother that I bought new clothes, she said “THANK GOD!” on the phone. Apparently, I was long overdue for new clothes, but she didn’t want to hurt my feelings.

It’s been a while, I know.
But I bring you a recipe with butter, sugar, eggs and PUMPKIN. I hope you forgive me. 🙂
I decided it was time to just start baking again. It’s feeling cold outside again, butter was on major sale, so, of course, things felt right. 🙂
Of course, I wanted to make something a little out of the ordinary, so I scrolled through my google reader starred items and stumbled upon this!
Pumpkin Pie Snickerdoodle Bars. Pumpkin pie layered on top of a snickerdoodle cookie layer, drizzled in spiced white chocolate. Delicious, right?
Sounds great right? Yes. They are excellent! So excellent, in fact, that they ended up being a hit at the hubs’ office.
Pumpkin Pie Snickerdoodle Bars
Source: adaptation found on Beantown Baker, originally on Dozen FloursSnickerdoodle Layer Ingredients:
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups packed brown sugar
- 1 cup butter, at room temperature
- 2 eggs, at room temperature
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
Pumpkin Pie Layer Ingredients:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 stick butter, at room temperature
- 1 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
- 2 eggs, at room temperature
- 1 1/2 cups canned pumpkin
Topping Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons white sugar
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
Drizzle Ingredients:
- 1 oz white chocolate, chopped
- 1/4 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 350F. Lightly grease a 9×13 inch pan and lay a piece of parchment paper across the pan, so that it extends the pan slightly. The parchment paper is an optional step, but it will make it easier to get the bars out later
- To make snickerdoodle layer:
Sift together flour, baking powder and salt and set aside. In large bowl, beat together butter, sugar, egg and vanilla until smooth.
Stir in the flour mixture until well blended. Spread evenly in prepared pan. (Tip: wet your hands with warm water to make the batter easy to spread, since it’s thick.)- To make pumpkin pie filling:
In a mixer bowl (you can use the same one you used to make the snickerdoodle batter) with a paddle attachment, mix together butter and sugar. A dd the rest of the ingredients and mix until well combined. This layer will be less thick and more pourable. Pour over the snickerdoodle layer, smoothing out the top.- Combine white sugar and cinnamon in a little bowl. Evenly sprinkle cinnamon sugar mixture over the top of the batter.
- Bake for 33-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the pan comes out clean. Let the bars cool completely. They will deflate a bit and remain a bit pie-like on the top layer. The bars that are closer to the edges of the pan will be more firm.
- After the bars are completely cool, place the chopped white chocolate into a bowl or zip-lock bag and melt on low power. When it’s completely melted, add the pumpkin pie spice and mix (or knead if using a zip lock bag). Use a spoon or cut a small corner off the bag and drizzle the melted chocolate over the top of the bars and let it cool and harden.
- Use the parchment paper to lift the bars out of the pan. Place on a cutting board and cut into bars. Store in a covered container.
I can’t believe it’s almost Thanksgiving! I mean, it feels like it’s still August out here, weather wise!!
Thanksgiving also makes me think of Black Friday, which is my FAVORITE shopping day! Now, before you shake your head and call me crazy-pants, there is a method to the madness. I really do find amazing deals that way, and something about it gets me in the holiday spirit!
Here’s some pointers I have for Black Friday.
How many of y’all hit up Black Friday? I know I’m not the only one out there!!

As much as I rave about our cute dog, Millie, there has always been a bit of a problem with her when it comes to me/her. She likes to nip/bite me…a lot.
For example, she nips my leg if she wants me to get up or bites my hand if she wants to play. It used to be no big deal as a puppy, and I thought she’d outgrow it, but now, its starting to actually hurt!
She really doesn’t do this to the hubs either.
Has anyone ever dealt with this? I love her to pieces, but the biting needs to stop. 🙁
Once upon a time, I helped to host a quilt block swap.
Soon after…way too soon after, since time flies and all, I had a bunch of ::awesome:: squares in my hands. I knew/hoped all of the participants would be happy, because I sure was!
Then, a little idea popped into my head.
I printed grid paper, used most of my mechanical pencil’s eraser, but my little idea ended up on paper.
I started sewing up part of a charm pack that I bought months ago to start making my little idea a reality.
My little idea is starting to look good.
My little idea isn’t a quilt, though.
As you can see in the bottom left corner, I did the math wrong, but I fixed it in Picnik.
Surprised? 😉
I hope you don’t mind. 🙂

Do you ever get ready for bed thinking where did the time go? I especially have this problem after work.
Here’s my timeline. On a normal work-day, I get home around 4pm. I usually don’t head to bed until 10:30pm or so. So, there are 6 hours and 30 minutes that I have to make things happen.
I don’t make much happen.
I usually lounge around watching TV, surfing the Internet and playing with my dog. Before I know it, it’s time for dinner, and THEN it’s time to wind down before bed.
SERIOUSLY?
I have 6 hours and 30 minutes. I’m sort of mad that I let that time just fly away. I could have a clean house, projects done, feel accomplished…but instead, I feel lazy.
A while back, I read this post on Claremont Road. She was experiencing the same exact thing, and the Pomodoro Technique she mentioned just stuck with me. While I’m not willing to work 25 minutes, then just have a 5 minute break (you know, since I’m home from work by now and don’t want this to be too daunting), I figured I could make a goal of 6 tomatoes a day. (6 25-minute sessions of being productive at home)
So, here’s my new idea. 6 tomatoes a day. That’s 6 tasks getting taken care of each day! What I might do is try to bust these out before dinner so I can be a lazy bum after and enjoy some time with my husband and the pup. 🙂
Have you ever heard of the Pomodoro Technique? What do you think?
