Because I’m cheap..

November 23, 2010 by Amy 9 Comments

As you may know, I hate HATE clothes shopping. It’s absolutely depressing for someone my size, not to mention, pricey.

There aren’t many choices out there for plus sized women. I can go into JCPenney and the choices for plus sizes are about 1/4 of the choices for women in misses. Is this a silent way to tell me that I need to lose weight to get more clothing choices? Most of the time, as well, the plus sized selection is very mature. Not a fan. I’m 26.

There are other reasons I rarely shop.

  1. In my mind, I feel like I should be in misses. I want to boycott the plus sized aisle. I can lose this weight, right? No reason to waste money on new clothes when I won’t fit in them soon, right? WRONG..I’ve gained. Fattest I’ve ever been..agh.
  2. The stares. Explained better here.
  3. I feel like I ::never:: look good in anything. Why waste the money?

Well, it got to the point that most of the tops I wear at the workplace are from college. Some of the tops have recently started to get holes, and I have to just stop wearing them. So, I had no choice. Even the hubs pushed me to do this, because I needed new tops.

I’m REALLY hoping these tops won’t fit me next Fall/Winter season. I also REALLY hope they look decent on me, since I bought them online (Lane Bryant was having an early Cyber Monday sale yesterday).

1, 2, 3, 4

I’ll look ok, right? Can you believe that these sweaters/tops were regularly $40-$50? THIS is why I hate shopping plus size folks. Ridiculous. Thank God for a 50% off code yesterday. I just hope they are cute. :

Hilariously, when I told my mother that I bought new clothes, she said “THANK GOD!” on the phone. Apparently, I was long overdue for new clothes, but she didn’t want to hurt my feelings.

And yes, I realize I have a bad self image of myself. Most plus sized women don’t have the highest self image, so please don’t tell me I need to love my body. No way folks…not a fan of this body..not.at.all.

I hate buying clothes too. For a different size-related reason: height. It’s like, if you aren’t 5’6″ and 115 lbs, you will NOT find things that look as they were intended to look. Ugh. Anyway, all of those tops you bought are super cute. I hope you are happy with them! I especially love the ruffly-detailed teal one. Gorgeous!! Yay for sales 🙂

I forgot about that too. Being tall is another obstacle. Some tops are WAY too short! Agh..

I’m happy for you that you got new clothes – just think of them as transition clothes. You are at point “a” and you will get to point “b” – but while you are at “a” you don’t need another reason to feel bad. My mother is plus size and has always had a hard time finding things that she likes to see on herself. She recently discovered the Nordstrom (I know pricey!) has a really great plus size section, and the people who work at Nordstrom are amazing. I go in there with her sometimes and it’s like she is the belle of the ball. She is comfortable. The clothes are cute and up-to-date (not mom clothes!) and yes they are a bit expensive but she has really gained so much confidence by wearing ‘cool’ clothes, rather then the stuff she used to buy from Kohls or wherever she could find it. Sorry for the super long post but I’m happy you found stuff that will make you happy, and I know you’ll get to your point b when the time is right!

I think it’s great that you did invest in a few new tops! I love the redish button up! Even if your planning on not wearing them next fall (you can do it!) – its still important that you invest in yourself and wear something that you are comfortable in now.

Another gripe about JCPenney… they have a really good, large Big & Tall section for men. We can always find nice stuff for my husband there when we’re in a pinch for a nice outfit (and usually 50% off). But the women’s plus size section at the same store? Practically non-existant. Not a fan!

You’ll have to let us know how the tops work out. I really like the top two! I used to shop LB all the time but they closed the one in my town… which is better on my wallet, but not my wardrobe!

Good for you for getting some new clothes. I always feel better when I put new clothes on, as long as they fit right anyway! That argyle henley is really cute!

Man-You wrote exactly what I have been thinking! It’s getting colder and my once roomy pants are a bit snug, so I too had to bite to bullet and buy new pants…ugh. And yes, why the heck do our clothes have to be so much money???!

I like all of the bright colors you picked out for the tops!

I feel you on the frustration…albeit in a different way. I used to LOVE shopping…but as a person who now has the frame of a 10 year old child, it is insanely difficult to find appropriate clothing that fits me. I’m pretty much forced to shop at stores like Forever 21, since they have things that fit…but end up sitting way too low on my hips like a hoochie or they are too short. Shopping is just a frustrating process lately. I just want something that looks age appropriate and FITS! You wouldn’t think that is too hard to ask right???
